文字エンコーディングとは？
ASCIIは最初の文字エンコーディング規格 です（文字セットとも呼ばれます）。
ASCIIはインターネットで使用できる128の異なる英数字を定義しました:
数字（0-9）、英字（AZ）、および！のようないくつかの特殊文字。$ + – （）@ < > 。
ISO-8859-1は、HTML 4のデフォルトの文字セットです。 この文字セットは、256種類の文字コードもサポートしていました。
ANSIはISO-8859-1と同じですが、ANSIには32個の追加文字があります。
ANSIとISO-8859-1は非常に限られていたので、HTML 4はUTF-8もサポートしました。
UTF-8（Unicode）は、世界中のほとんどすべての文字と記号をカバーしています。
HTML5のデフォルトの文字エンコードはUTF-8です。
HTML文字セット属性
HTMLページを正しく表示するには、Webブラウザはそのページで使用されている文字セットを知っている必要があります。
これは<meta> タグで指定されます。:
<meta charset=”UTF-8″>
ブラウザがWebページでISO-8859-1を検出すると、デフォルトはANSIになります。

ASCII文字セット
ASCIIは、制御文字に0から31（および127）までの値を使用します。
ASCIIは、文字、数字、および記号に32から126までの値を使用します。
ASCIIは128から255までの値を使用しません。

ANSI文字セット（Windows-1252）
ANSIは0から127までの値に関してASCIIと同一です。
ANSIには、128から159までの値に対する独自の文字セットがあります。
ANSIは160から255までの値に関してUTF-8と同じです。
ISO-8859-1文字セット
8859-1は0から127までの値に関してASCIIと同じです。
8859-1は128から159までの値を使用しません。
8859-1は、160から255までの値についてはUTF-8と同じです。

UTF-8文字セット
UTF-8は、0から127までの値に関してASCIIと同じです。

UTF-8は、160から255までの値に関して、ANSIと8859-1の両方と同じです。
